Shai-Hsien’s Journal: Entry One

The mainland has proved very interesting. I know it is likely because I just don’t understand Human culture, but they sure do some weird things. During my first night here, the entire town was burned down and this woman, Oolaora, killed two guys. This is apparently part of their complex and expensive mating ritual. I do hope none try to court me during my stay.

The Empire is nothing like the image they sell to us, and I now seem to have joined a resistance group fighting for freedom. I have no business in the Empire’s affairs, but I won’t go slithering home to my mother so soon. Besides, Oolaora burned down the only ship in the port. No, It’s a bit scary, but what could be more inspiring than a small group fighting an oppressive Emperor? Think of the excitement! Many epic events and tragic tales are sure to follow. Many a great song should be written from these, and I’ll be able to experience them first hand. Now I’m no fighter so I’ll stick to a support role. Help out a bit, but mostly observe. I’m learning so much!

I met a cute little fellow named Irix. He’s a Kobold, some sort of little lizard guy. Apparently the humans don’t like them much, I can’t see why. They don’t seem to mind Lamia or the other races I’ve encountered. I do think I’ll write a song about him.

“Oh little Irix, stand tall. Strength is measured not by height but by heart.
None can take away your Kobold pride, if one tries just stab them in the eye.”

Ok, it needs a lot of work. I’ll make an epic yet.
